Summer 2015 PPM Ratings

First we’ll take a look at the PPM ratings for Adults 12+ to get an idea of who has the most bodies listening overall above the age bracket. These ratings will include CBC stations; then we’ll dig down into specific demos with only the commercial stations because these are the demos sponsors look for when placing buys.

One of the big questions on many minds for the summer is probably the effect of Voltair. If all the stations had it off during this summer ratings period as asked, the end result of all those questions is ‘not much’. Generally, stations that jumped last book stayed up and those that dropped stayed down. One would surmise it was their programming, not the processing, that made those moves happen.

One other interesting note for this book across the country; other than Vancouver, CBC was down in all markets. While in all markets excluding Vancouver, there is a general trending over the past few books for News and Newstalk stations to pick up 18-34 year olds.  Seems you can make a Newstalk station appealing to younger people.

Toronto:

CHFI is at the at the top of the ratings heap for summer despite taking a big hit in the winter and staying down since then. CHFI-FM grabs a 9.8% share of hours tuned for A12+ (up from 9.5% last time out). CHUM-FM is number 2 and Boom continues to climb with its 3rd up ratings in a row and remains at #3.

Things look different in the money demo of Adults 25-54. Although down from the last few books, CHUM-FM is number 1 with a 13.6% share, followed by Boom (12.4), CHFI (10.8), Virgin (8.6) and Q (6). Things are shifting a bit in the market as Boom, Virgin, Q, CFTR, The Edge and The Fan have all been trending upwards over the last 3 ratings. A hot Blue Jays is no doubt a big plus for The Fan, and while Indie 88 is still down in the pack, the station had its 3rd ratings gain in a row.

CHUM-FM takes the #1 spot with the ladies 25-54 delivering a 17.9% share (down from 18.4 followed by CHFI-FM with 14.2% (down from 14.6%). BOOM-FM holds the #1 spot for 25-54 males, posting a 12.9% share (down from 13.8% in the last 13 week book) followed by Q107 at 11.7% (up from 9.3%).

Looking younger at Adults 18-34, CHUM-FM crushes with a 15.8 share, followed by CHFI, Virgin and The Edge. Virgin 99.9 has the guys 18-34 with a 10.1% share. For F18-34, CHUM-FM tops the list posting a 19.6% (down from 26.3%). Some significant younger trending over the last 3 books; CHFI has dropped almost in half, while Virgin, Boom, The Edge, Indie 88, and CFTR have all been climbing in the same period.
