Rob Bowman's Big Night Out In Havana With Mick and the Lads

A few weeks ago, I saw the Who and while they played very well, virtually every note in place, running through such classic works as “My Generation,” “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and “Pinball Wizard,” the concert felt a bit like visiting a museum. Everything was pristine and perfect but there was no sense of spontaneity, blood, life-and-death passion. The Rolling Stones in 2016, and particularly on this night in Havana, come across as a still vital working band stirring up the alchemical magic that brings the Holy Spirit down in Pentecostal churches. The result was 1.2 million people experiencing what is ultimately the essence of life, the transformation of energy that makes you know anything and everything is possible.
