NAV - "Myself" (XO): The fast-rising Rexdale, Toronto beatsmith/producer has yet to receive much mainstream media coverage, but look for that to change, fast. The first ever artist signed by The Weeknd to the XO label, NAV is blowing up bigtime online, having scored well over 100 million plays on his Soundcloud page.
His recently released self-titled mixtape debuted at #5 on the overall Apple music charts. His hit “Up,” co-produced with Metro Boomin, currently has garnered over 22 million streams, while the self-produced fan-favorite “Myself ”sits at close to 30 million. The track “Some Way,” ft. The Weeknd, has been another YouTube hit, while a collaborative album with Metro Boomin, Perfect Timing, is reportedly coming soon.
NAV is also an in-demand producer, and he was at the helm for “Biebs in the Trap,” the gold-selling cut by Travis Scott. In 2015, NAV also co-produced Drake’s Grammy-nominated track “Back to Back.”
A video for "Myself" came out last week, and is already nudging 1M views. The vividly-coloured clip accompanies a track featuring sparse beats below NAV’s fluent delivery of lyrics that definitely fall into the introspective vein oft favoured by The Weeknd and Drake. Samples: “When I’m sober I just don’t like who I am” – “I’ve got a lot of enemies who used to be my friends”. Plenty of references to the '6' here too.
NAV is finally stepping out into the performance spotlight. His live debut came recently at London's O2 arena, where he appeared with Travis Scott on The Weeknd’s Starboy tour.
His hometown debut will be at Toronto's Mod Club on April 6, and he's confirmed to appear at Coachella, April 15 and 22.
