Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee

Canadian Music & Broadcast Industry Winners

The Grand Ballroom at the Sheraton Hotel in Toronto was packed late yesterday with an all-star cast of power brokers in attendance for the Canadian Music and Broadcast  Industry Awards (CMBIAs) gala that honours the best, the brightest and the most successful in the biz.

Jessi Cruickshank was, as per usual, impeccable in her amusing and ever-professional delivery as host of what has grown from an unruly gathering of the clan into a polished summit for insiders.

Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson from Rush were honoured at the event with the 2017 Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award in recognition of the band's significant contribution to a wide variety of worthy causes since the early 1970s. As the recipients of the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award, Rush received $40,000, which the band unanimously decided to contribute and match with their own money for the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research at Sunnybrook.

Jann Arden and Marilyn Denis were honoured last night

Jann Arden, 54*40 and Arthur Fogel were also in attendance as 2017 inductees to the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame and Marilyn Denis received the Allan Waters Broadcast Lifetime Achievement Award.

The CMBIA's honoured industry from across Canada including Kelowna's 99.9 Sun FM, voted Best SmallRadio Station; Ben Rayner of the Toronto Star, Best Music Journalist/Critic; Barry Stewart from Live 105/Hot Country 103.5 in Halifax, Best Secondary Market Music Directory; Toronto's Sonic Boom, Best Independent Record Store; and Universal Music Canada continued its long-standing winning streak as Major Label of the Year.

Below is the complete list of 2017 Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Award nominees and winners.
