Here are some of the planks of interest that the Liberals pledged to tackle in the run-up to the election:
- To expedite Copyright Board decisions and remove excessive red tape from the review process.
- Ongoing support for current Canadian content and local programming obligations of Canadian broadcasters and recognition of the need to modernize the Broadcasting Act.
- A review of Copyright Modernization Act with more emphasis placed on views expressed by creators that were suppressed by the Conservative-drafted legislation.
- Restoring the PromArt and Trade Routes cultural export trade programs (cut by the Conservatives) to the tune of $25 million a year.
- Stabilizing the CBC/Radio Canada with $525 million investment over four years.
- Bolstering cultural infrastructure to the tune of $6 billion over 4 years, and almost $20 billion over 10 years.
- Extending protection for compositions and songs for composers and songwriters from the life of the composer plus 70 years (from 50).
