Sony Music Canada topper Shane Carter and crew have their eye on the ball when it comes to spotting opportunity.
The latest announcement has the label entering into a "strategic partnership" with Audiogram Records, Quebec's premiere independent record label.
Effective December 1st, Sony Music will become the exclusive distributor of Audiogram’s recordings in Canada and together with Sony Music France, its French affiliate, "will leverage its proven track record of creating global superstars to maximize opportunities for Audiogram’s diverse roster of talent and extraordinary depth of catalogue," the companies said in a joint statement.
Audiogram, in turn, with its 30+ year legacy as Quebec’s leading label and its strong relationships across the industry, will bring French artists to music fans in Quebec and foster a substantial heritage of artistry across Canada and beyond.
“We are very pleased with this strategic partnership which will allow us to further expand our distribution reach," said Michel Bélanger, Audiogram President and founder. "This agreement will create unique opportunities for our artists and our company. Sony Music’s worldwide reputation is well established and we are looking forward to working with them."
At the same time, Carter, Sony Music Entertainment Canada's President, stated that “Michel Bélanger brings immense passion for fostering local talent," adding that “Audiogram’s A&R expertise and creative vision are a strategic fit for Sony Music and we look forward to continuing our commitment to finding and nurturing talent in the Quebec market, while providing a platform within Sony Music’s worldwide network.”
Sony Music France President Stéphane Le Tavernier also expressed strong support for the venture, stating that “by creating this strategic alliance with Audiogram, Quebec’s most successful and innovative label, we will be uniquely positioned to create meaningful opportunities to promote Quebec’s artistic talent abroad and highlight Sony France’s artists in Canada."
Of note is that the partnership will not modify Audiogram’s corporate structure; its governance and shareholders remain unchanged.
Artists currently signed with Audiogram include Isabelle Boulay, Pierre Lapointe, Alex Nevsky, Mara Tremblay, and Loco Locas.
