Florence + The Machine: Delilah (The Odyssey)

Florence + The Machine - "Delilah (The Odyssey Chapter 6)" (Universal): This is the sixth in a splashy video series for the group's big shiny album, How Big How Blue How Beautiful.

Clocking over the 6-minute mark, this magnificent guilt-trip gives Florence Welch the dramatic lead.

It's a song about betrayal (in case you missed the reference in the song title) and Florence nails it to the floor with one helluva performance... but the video treatment is a bit of a time-spanning yawn sunk by cliches as it tries too hard at being more than it is really is: A great song given a great performance. Better that they had saved the money and captured the song in a widescreen performance video.

(Intro)

You think you have lost your faith

 But you have not

You have only misplaced your faith

And you can't find it where it lies now

 Deep in your soul

And the way to do that

Is through the simple process of love

 Love yourself, forgive yourself

You can't love and forgive other people

If you don't first of all love and forgive yourself

You have to realize that people are fallible beings

They make mistakes, they have to be excused from these mistakes

And allowed to continue on in this quest for a better life

 And for goodness

So love yourself and then love other people

 Please forgive yourself

Go on a journey of finding love and forgiveness

 Love people even thought ...

 (Verse)

Driftin' through the halls with the sunrise

 (Holdin' on fo' ur call)

Climbin' up the walls fo' that flashin' light

 (I can never let go)

Cos' I'm goin' to be free and I'm goin' to be fine

 (Holdin' on fo' ur call)

Cos' I'm goin' to be free and I'm goin' to be fine

 (Maybe not tonight)

Now the sun is up and I'm goin' blind

 (Holdin' on fo' ur call)

Anotha drink just to pass the time

 (I can never say no)

Cos' I'm goin' to be free and I'm goin' to be fine

 (Holdin' on fo' ur call)

Cos' I'm goin' to be free and I'm goin' to be fine

 (Maybe not tonight)

 (Chorus)

It's a different kind of danger

And the bells are ringin' out

And I'm callin' fo' my mother

As I pull the pillars down

It's a different kind of danger

And my feet are spinnin' around

Never knew I was a dancer

 Till Delilah showed me how

 (Interlude)

 Too fast fo' freedom

 Sometimes it all falls down

 These chains never leave me

 I keep draggin' them around

 (Verse 2)

Now I'm dancin' with Delilah and her vision is mine

 (Holdin' on fo' ur call)

A different kind of danger in the daylight

 (I can never let go)

Took anythin' to cut u, I can find

 (Holdin' on fo' ur call)

A different kind of a danger in the daylight

 (Can't u let me know?)

Now it's one more boy and it's one more lie

 (Holdin' on fo' ur call)

Takin' the pills just to pass the time

 (I can never say no)

Cos' I'm goin' to be free and I'm goin' to be fine

 (Holding on fo' ur call)

Cos' I'm goin' to be free and I'm goin' to be fine

 But maybe not tonight

 (Chorus)

 (Verse 3)

Now I'm dancin' with Delilah and her vision is mine

 (Holdin' on fo' ur call)

A different kind of danger in the daylight

 (I can never let go)

Took anythin' to cut u, I can find

 (Holdin' on fo' ur call)

A different kind of a danger in the daylight

 (Can't u let me know?)

 (Bridge)

Strung up, strung out fo' ur luv

Hangin', hung up, it's so rough

 I'm wrung and ringin' out

Why can't u let me know?

Strung up, strung out fo' ur luv

Hangin', hung up, it's so rough

 I'm wrung and ringin' out

Why can't u let me know?

(Chorus)

 (Outro)

 Too fast fo' freedom

 Sometimes it all falls down

 These chains never leave me

 I keep draggin' them around

 Too fast fo' freedom

 Sometimes it all falls down

 These chains never leave me

 I keep draggin' them around
