Canada's unprecedented wave of success with Drake, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, Alessia Cara, Carly Rae Jepsen and songwriters such as Stephan Moccio and Tobias Jesso Jr. are bringing home record royalty revenues to Canada.
“We haven’t closed out the year completely yet, but we’re looking at over $60 million, probably close to $62 million,” says Catharine Saxberg, vice president of international relations at the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada.
Speaking to the Canadian Press, Saxberg enthuses “We did $55 million last year, so that is a significant improvement. Year upon year our numbers are getting better and better.”
