Tracking Canadian Albums By Genre

Canada is still a country that is known for its folk and singer-songwriter recordings, at least according to new data tracking recordings by genre in 2015.

Canadian Music Blog reports the two genres accounted for 21.6-percent or 139 albums of the 661 tracked last year. Running a close second, at 21-percent, are albums designated in the vague but oft-used edgy-pop and jangly rock genre of Alt or alt-rock.

The authors simplify matters by producing a pie-chart delineating what genres as a percentage were tracked last year, adding that “genres are quite subjective (and) the point of this is to show that a wide variety of styles of music is being made and what the more predominant ones are.
