Jaren Cerf, who earned rave reviews last summer for her portrayal of Joni Mitchell and Celine Dion in the stage production OH CANADA What A Feeling! is in Moscow this week for a rare live appearance in the EDM/Trance music world, in which she holds celebrity status as a vocalist and songwriter, as part of the all-star lineup for Trance Vision: The Awakening on March 5.
Cerf has more than 40 million views of her music videos on YouTube, thousands of followers worldwide on social media and numerous award nominations and top-of-the-chart Billboard EDM/Trance hits. Her song “Unforgiveable,” on which she worked with renowned Dutch Trance music producer/DJ Armin van Buuren, was a huge dance hit. The video, in which she appears, has close to 17 million views.
Outside the EDM genre, Jaren has recently completed the recording of her sophomore “folk” album 7 Year Itch, produced in her hometown of Montréal by Sébastien Lefebvre, guitarist/vocalist with internationally-renowned “pop-punk” band Simple Plan, and Swedish musician/composer Rickard Nilsson. She has frequently collaborated with Lefebvre on writing songs for a long list of established artists and album projects including Andee, Michelle Treacy, Lukay, Eva Avila, and Maiara.
7 Year Itch, the follow-up to her 2008 debut recording Fixin’ It Upright, which had been recorded in Sweden under the auspices of noted producers, Alar Suurna (Roxette) and Jerker Eklund, is set for release on May 8th (Mother’s Day). There’s no coincidence in the timing. This extremely personal set of songs, which is informed by her own voyage of self-discovery after having two children as she teetered on the brink of international stardom, has become the soundtrack and the centrepiece for a broader multimedia project which includes her first book titled GRIT: When Motherhood and Celebrity Collide, which features interviews and conversations with dozens of remarkable women who have faced the same challenges.
Cerf, whose eclectic resume includes musician (piano, guitar), ballet dancer, filmmaker, actress, women’s advocate, environmental activist, personal assistant to Golden Globe Award-winning actor Scott Bakula and championship yodeler, is currently collaborating, as co-producer/co-writer with Martin Melhuish, on two music-oriented, multimedia productions in which she will be featured.
