The Unseen Strangers: Wicked Lover

The Unseen Strangers –“Wicked Lover” (Independent): The bluegrass scene in Toronto remains in fine shape, thanks to excellent younger groups like The Unseen Strangers. Led by Adam Shier, they first made a mark out East, winning a Music Nova Scotia Award in 2009 for Bluegrass/Country Album of the Year. Now T.O.-based, Shier also gigs with the likes of Foggy Hogtown Boys and the Slocan Ramblers. The Unseen Strangers released a new album, Stranger Places, on Friday, and it’s a high quality effort featuring a spirited sound they term newgrass. It was recorded live off the floor with production by Andrew Collins (Creaking Tree String Quartet), and focus track “Wicked Lover” showcases their style nicely. The group has had an impact Stateside and this should help spread the word here.
