CIMA Scouts Opportunities For Its Members

CIMA (The Canadian Independent Music Association) continues to be very active in pursuing and presenting opportunities for its members, both at home and abroad.

They recently alerted their members to the fact that The International Marketplace at CMW is an excellent chance for them to meet with the international delegation attending the Canadian Music Week conference.

This year Canadian Music Week will be presenting a FOCUS ON IRELAND, and The International Marketplace is holding B2B pre-arranged meetings and networking. Participants interested in scheduling pre-arranged B2B meetings with delegates from Ireland should get on the case quickly, as the deadline to submit a Meeting Request Form is 6 PM on Wednesday, April 27, 2016. These meetings will be held on Saturday May 7 (12:45 PM – 2:45 PM) at the Sheraton Centre Hotel in Toronto. Apply at goo.gl/VE3YFe

There is the same submission deadline for the B2B pre-arranged meetings for a SPOTLIGHT ON THE UK. These meetings with delegates from the UK will be held on Friday May 6 (11 am to 1pm) at The Sheraton. Apply here: goo.gl/XDJJH4

These opportunities are only available to registered CMW delegates.

CIMA is also training its sights on Germany, and is preparing for Canada House at Reeperbahn 2016, for the fifth year. The CIMA Newsletter terms this “a fantastic opportunity to access the third largest worldwide music market. Reeperbahn attracts thousands of artists and music industry professionals from across the globe.

“Our 2015 Canada House at Reeperbahn was a great success, with Canadian Blast having mounted a trade mission with 18 Canadian companies and 6 artist entrepreneurs, with 23 showcasing artists. What were the results? 314 meetings and 101 deals."

The conference takes place in Hamburg from Sept. 21-24, with a pre-event in Berlin on Sept. 20. CIMA is now looking for bands/artists that can showcase at this year’s Canada House.

The submission deadline is May 25, 2016. You can apply at goo.gl/BSa7yb

Earlier this month, CIMA brought the first ever Canadian Blast showcase and business initiative to The Chicago International Movies & Music Festival (CIMMFest) in Chicago, Illinois. The festival, a four-day event combining film, live music, VJ/DJ sets, Q&As, industry panels and presentations, showcased the important relationship between movies and music. Four Canadian companies joined the Music Export Canada mission: Bumstead Productions, McKinley Entertainment, POP Entertainment & Management and Pipe & Hat as well as four bands: Sc Mira, The Noble Thiefs, The Treble and The Trews.

CIMA conducted a marketing campaign throughout CIMMFest 2016, hiring an in-market production team to spread the word about the Canadian artists performing, many of whom played additional showcases throughout CIMMFest.
