Rogers Teams With Shazam For New Radio Countdown Show
In a Canadian first, Rogers Radio has entered an agreement with Shazam, via Tapped Mobile, to combine traditional radio with digital music content, and hopefully create a ton of sponsorship opportunities in the process.
Incorporating a daily countdown, The Shazam @ 7 Countdown launched on Toronto radio station KiSS 92.5, Edmonton's 91.7 The Bounce and Vancouver's KiSS Radio, using unique and targeted data to feature different playlists in each market and highlight the seven top tracks of the day.
The compiled tracks are those recently "Shazam'd" and trending tracks across the country, and they're accessible through a multitude of platforms ranging from each station's official website, Facebook, Twitter, iOs apps (iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch) and Android phones and tablets.
Booster Juice is the first official sponsor, but Rogers says plenty of in-show brand integration, live and local on-air mentions, "Shazammable" radio spots, brandsell opportunities and data analytics exist across Rogers Radio and digital platforms.
They even suggest that sponsors could hold the spot following the #1 song in the countdown, and use a live lead-in to encourage listeners to use Shazam for prizes, digital coupons, special content and app downloads, promising a fixed on-air spot time five nights a week.
Says Julie Adam, Rogers Radio's senior vice-president, in a statement: “I use my Shazam app all the time. It’s a complete game changer for discovering the songs we love, and allows us to really cater to the different tastes of our local listeners to bring them even more of the music they want in real time. There are definitely more exciting announcements to come as this partnership continues to evolve.”
