Sum 41: God Save Us All (Death To POP)

Sum 41  “God Save Us All (Death To POP)” (Hopeless Records): They have long been absent from the spotlight as frontman Deryck Whibley dealt with serious health and substance issues, but the Canadian punk heroes return with a bang now.  The band's first LP in five years, 13 Voices, comes out Oct. 7.

Earlier this summer, Sum 41 released a music video for the leading fan track, “Fake My Own Death.” The fact it has notched over 4.3 million views is a more than promising sign that they've retained a large audience, and this strong new track will fan the flames.

It features searing guitars, jackhammer rhythm and Whibley in full-throated sneering vocal form. Good production qualities and pacing too. Sum 41’s desire to kill Pop may be futile, but we admire the sentiment.

The accompanying music video, directed by Blake Higgins, shows highlights of Sum 41 on stage this summer during Vans Warped Tour and European tour dates. The band will perform on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on October 3rd, then kick off a headlining tour.
