Arkells - “My Heart’s Always Yours” (Universal Music Canada): The fact that the Hamilton-based rock ‘n rollers have sold out two shows at Massey Hall (Nov. 4-5) confirms that they’ve definitely arrived. They’re still riding high with their latest album Morning Report, and have just released a compelling video for this, its second single.
Mainman Max Kerman explains its creation in a press release: "Making a video for a romantic song is hard. We loved (director) Ally’s previous work, and when she pitched a treatment that was more abstract and less on the nose, we were immediately drawn to the idea. There’s a visceral experience about being in an art gallery that I really enjoy. A lot of great art doesn’t serve it right up to you - you have to patiently take it in and then unpack your feelings. That’s what the video offers - it gives me the feels without any trite nods to romantic nostalgia."
The mid-tempo cut has a nice dynamic flow and showcases Arkells' surging and catchy sound neatly.
Arkells are now out touring Stateside until Nov. 13. opening for Kongos and Frank Turner. In late November they cross the pond for four shows in Germany and three in the U.K..
