IFPI Names Drake Global Best-Seller

Toronto ambassador and hip-hop superstar Drake is the world's best-selling recording artist of 2016, according to IFPI.

Drake, whose album Views became the first album to reach 1B streams on Apple Music, also led the way as the most streamed artist on Spotify, scoring 8.7B streams.  The album's second single, "One Dance" featuring Wizkid and Kyla, also achieved the milestone of becoming the first song to be played 1B times on Spotify.

For his efforts, Drake will follow in One Direction, Taylor Swift and Adele's footsteps and receive IFPIs Global Recording Artist of the Year Award, which honours the top artist across physical and digital formats and includes downloads and streams.

Drake wasn't the only Canadian to make the cut: Justin Bieber landed at No. 5 and The Weeknd fell just behind the posthumous Prince for the No. 10 position.

Here is the Top 10:

1. Drake
2. David Bowie
3. Coldplay
4. Adele
5. Justin Bieber
6. Twenty One Pilots
