Barbra Lica: London Town

Barbra Lica - “London Town” (Justin Time): The recent Juno Award nomination in the Vocal Jazz Album of the Year category for this hard-working young Toronto singer/songwriter was richly deserved.

It came for her third album, I'm Still Learning, and Lica has now put out a playful video for one of its tracks, "London Town."

In a press release, Lica notes that the song “was inspired by the romanticism of Europe in the 60s,” and the clip has a suitably retro feel.

Directed by Faye Blais and Dale Sood, the video sees Toronto as well as Old Montreal posing as the English capital, with temps more typical of the Canadian cities.

“It was SO cold in Montreal,” Lica recalls. “We actually had somebody on set whose sole job was to run to me with a parka between scenes! It's been a labour of love and we hope ‘London Town’ warms a few hearts this winter.”

She adds that “This video truly represents the way I felt when I wrote ‘London Town,’ wandering the streets of London for the first time, full of awe and wonder as the proverbial new girl in town."

Lica has a bubbly voice and personality that recalls Doris Day, one of her inspirations, and she balances jazz and pop stylings with ease. A vibrant young talent to watch closely.
