Joey Landreth - "Whiskey" (Cadence): As a member of The Bros. Landreth, this guitar-slinging roots-rocker has achieved national prominence and a Juno Award. Prior to that, he worked as a sideman for artists in a range of genres, and all this experience is now paying off on his solo project.
His first solo EP, Whiskey, was released a month ago, and was produced by Murray Pulver (Doc Walker, Crash Test Dummies). A live video for its title track, filmed at Stereobus Recording in Winnipeg, has just come out.
On an EPK album trailer, Landreth explains that the EP “is very much a continuation of what we were originally trying to do with the Bros. Landreth.”
He adds that “I was a guitarist long before I was a singer/songwriter, and I ultimately identify as a guitar player.” Those acclaimed fretting skills are in evidence on “Whiskey,” but the track shows he’s no slouch as a singer/songwriter either.
After shows in the UK and a Canadian tour supporting Donovan Woods, Landreth's trio has just begun its own 11-date cross-country tour. It includes a hometown Winnipeg show at the WECC on March 9 and a Dakota Tavern Toronto gig on March 16. Full itinerary here
