The Dirty Nil: Caroline

The Dirty Nil – “Caroline” (Fat Wreck Chords/Dine Alone): It has been a good month for the Hamilton-based rock trio, beginning with a Juno Award win in the Breakthrough Group category and upcoming April 28 release of an 11-track singles and b-sides compilation, titled Minimum R&B.

As is so often the case, it has taken the band over a decade of hard work to “break through,” but the Juno win will help spark interest in the back catalogue.

"Caroline" is a standout track included in the package.  Featured on the '09 EP, Saccharine Visceral, it has a somewhat different sound than the group's signature garage/punk rock. There’s a stoner rock vibe in the pacing, and Luke Bentham's vocals and stinging guitar riffs punch the whole thing up to good effect.

Fans of The Who will note that the title and graphics of the album pay homage to that group’s motto of “maximum R&B.”

The Dirty Nil recently toured Canada opening for Monster Truck and Billy Talent, and they begin a 16-city tour of the UK and Europe in Southampton on April 18. See a full itinerary here
