Nielsen Canada's new Music 360 report found that radio rules in terms of time spent and overall penetration - but streaming services are on the rise, especially with millennials.
The fourth annual survey discovered that approximately 53% of listeners play music through their smartphones throughout the week, with 79% of these, 53% of listeners being millennials.
The results showed a 19% boost from last year.
Downloaded collections from sources such as iTunes and Google Play dipped from 41% to 38%, with 64% of people listening to music from traditional radio stations, a small increase of 3% from last year. In a sure sign of the times, 25% of respondents acknowledged they still listen to music with a compact disc.
