Belle Game - “Low” (Arts & Crafts): This Vancouver group made a mark with their 2013 debut album, Ritual Tradition Habit. It drew rave reviews from the likes of Pitchfork and Rolling Stone, while Paste named them one of the “10 Great New Bands from CMJ”.
Look for Belle Game to kick things up a notch with their sophomore album, Fear/Nothing , due out on Sept. 8th on Arts & Crafts.
The second single from the new album, "Low" is both adventurous and compelling. It begins with an ethereal soundscape atop which Andrea Lo delivers her lyrics in rapid-fire staccato fashion. Layered keyboards then add a wide-screen dimension to the sound, and the production work of Dave Hamelin (The Stills) is first-rate.
The band has an important champion in the form of Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew, and he executive produced the new record.
Belle Game plays Hamilton's Supercrawl on Sept. 8 and Toronto's The Baby G on Sept. 15. The group then supports labelmates Broken Social Scene on 14 North American shows, including Vancouver's Commodore (Oct. 20-21). In late November they head to Europe for four headline shows.
