Dr Caroline J. Simard is, presumably, the final marquee line-up announcement for the Ontario Association of Broadcasters’ November 9 Connections 2017 confab at the Toronto Airport Marriott.
The OAB confab will be the first public address since Simard started her five-year term as vice-chair of Broadcasting at the CRTC in September.
Previously she was legal Counsel within the Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, a position she has held since 2007, where she has worked on the Telecommunications Act and the Radiocommunication Act.
From 2004 to 2007, Simard was also Senior Telecommunications Expert with the International Telecommunication Union in Geneva, the UN-specialized agency for information and communications technologies.
One of the most pressing issues for OAB members in dealing with the regulator is the absence of an Ontario commissioner, a post that has been held in abeyance for more than two years due to multiple lawsuits filed by Raj Shoan who is contesting his dismissal as the regional representative.
It is doubtful that Simard will be making any statement of fact about the vacancy, but one can always hope.
