Frazey Ford: "When We Get By" (Arts & Crafts): After making a significant mark in Vancouver folk combo The Be Good Tanyas, soulful singer/songwriter Frazey Ford earned acclaim for her two solo albums, 2010’s Obadiah and 2014’s Indian Ocean. The prestigious Arts & Crafts label has just signed Ford, who is now working on a new album at Afterlife Studios with co-producer John Raham (We Are The City, Sojourners, Destroyer).
This reinterpretation of D’Angelo’s “When We Get By" is Ford's first single since her stand-up-for-yourself 2014 anthem “Done”, which has notched over one million YouTube views.
Ford has one of the most distinctively soulful voices in Canadian music, and it is vividly showcased on the winning track. The production gives it room to breathe, while horns, backing vocals, and a silver-toned guitar employed with a subtle effectiveness. A quietly mesmerizing and uplifting gem.
International audiences have become hip to FF's trip, and she heads off on another Down Under tour on Nov. 15, playing nine shows in Australia and one in New Zealand.
