Camaromance - "Audrey" (Simone Records): The name Camaromance may suggest a selfies- loving photographer, but actually is the working name of Montreal singer/songwriter Martine Groulx. She will release her fourth album, Chasing Clouds, on April 6, and it is preceded by this first single.
"Audrey" is a beautiful song showcasing Groulx's clear and expressive voice, complemented by a haunting melody featuring chiming guitar.
In a label press release, Groulx explains the song's theme this way: "It is about the potential of the evening to come when friends make their way out on the town with high spirits in search of love and new adventures. Who knows? Maybe they will find Mr. Right.” If not, as the songs says, "this is just fun for tonight."
It has been eight years since the release of Camaromance's last album, The Parade, and Chasing Clouds reportedly finds her coming to terms with losses in her life. Expect intense self-searching on other songs on the record, but "Audrey" has a pleasingly light-hearted touch to it. Musically, Groulx has moved from an earlier grunge-inflected sound to Americana/folk terrain, with cello and lap steel featured. We are indeed keen to hear more.
Camaromance will launch the album with an April 4 show at Le Ministre in Montreal. Jesse Locke at Hive Mind PR is working this one.
