Paul Manchin: Lift

By Kerry Doole

Paul Manchin - "Lift" (Independent): This prolific pop singer/songwriter has released seven previous albums digitally, and he has received airplay on MTV, Bravo!, Sirius/XM and Galaxie. Manchin's 2017 album, Salutations, included the radio singles “Spin," “King” and “One."

His next album, Swim, comes out next week, preceded by this impressive single. Co-written and co-produced by Manchin and Black Jack, it is a tasty electro-pop confection. Manchin's softly melodic vocals are placed atop repetitive keyboard figures, and the tune is gently insinuating. There's a definite '80s vibe to his sound.

Swim was recorded in Toronto and New York, mastered by Chris Crerar (Metalworks) and produced with Moe Berg (The Pursuit of Happiness) and Fergus Hambleton (The Sattalites). Manchin has previously worked with such notables as Matt Forger (Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson) and Chin Injeti (Eminem).
