Monster Truck - "Thundertruck" (Mascot Records/Dine Alone): The Hamilton hard rock heroes are revving up for the release of a new album, True Rockers, due out on Sept. 14.
They've just delivered a video for one of its tracks, "Thundertruck," a tune initially forged during sessions for the previous Monster Truck album, Sittin' Heavy. In a label press release, guitarist Jeremy Widerman explains that “We had worked on that with me playing that lead part, and it left a big gaping hole in the heaviness of the song. Once we shifted that line over to the organ, we were like, this is awesome.”
The frenzied swirling organ suggests classic Deep Purple or Uriah Heep, in keeping with the band's unashamedly retro take on classic rock. The song features the line "all we need is a real metal ripper," and this is precisely what MT delivers.
True Rockers was primarily recorded with producer Dan Weller (SiKth, Young Guns, Enter Shikari), with Gavin Brown and Maia Davies contributing on three songs.
In the two years since Sittin’ Heavy came out, Monster Truck played over 150 shows, which included arena tours with Nickelback, Billy Talent and the final ever European Deep Purple tour. The group has graduated to headliner status in Europe now, as well as being popular on the festival circuit.
Monster Truck plays Sudbury's New Music Fest on Sept. 15, then return to Europe for another tour, Nov. 13-Dec. 3, followed by UK arena dates, Dec. 6-14. Dates here
