Ghost Caravan: Shine On

By Kerry Doole

Ghost Caravan - "Shine On" (the Confidence Emperors): Ghost Caravan is a collaborative project built around the songs and voice of Shaina Silver-Baird.  A debut album, T.O. Confidential, is being readied, preceded by this formidable track and video, released today (Aug. 31).

"Shine On" is co-written by Silver-Baird, Hill Kourkoutis (The Launch, SATE), Juliana Iannuzziello and Tim Abraham, with Kourkoutis handling the production duties. The tune is lushly-layered electro-pop with a rousing chorus and an upbeat message in a genre that usually stresses the dark or melancholy. The Ghost Caravan sound is described as orchestral soultronica, mixing electronic elements with a widescreen orchestral sound, and this track showcases that.

The video for the track is the directorial debut of Elise Bauman, star of the popular web series Carmilla.

On her forthcoming album, Shaina Silver-Baird collaborated with members of the Weeknd, Grand Analog, Martha and the Muffins, the Four On The Floor String Quartet and many others. In a label bio, Silver-Baird explains that "It felt like a whole village came together to make this record and I’m so grateful to that community. I love creating music with other people. The result is so much better because of the many points of view, different opinions and experiences that are woven into each song.”

Ghost Caravan plays a TIFF party at The Horseshoe in Toronto on Sept. 10, with a vinyl release show set for Supermarket in T.O. on Oct. 6.
