After eight years with Rogers Communications the president of Sportsnet and NHL Properties is stepping down at the end of the month. He played a key role in helping Rogers secure a 12-year, $5.2-billion deal with the NHL in 2013, and bring Don Cherry into the fold. – The Canadian Press


CRTC in semi-official discussions with EU regulatory body

The CRTC has signed a two-year memorandum of understanding with the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC), the EU’s telecommunications regulatory agency.

In a statement, BEREC and the CRTC have agreed to cooperate and support their respective efforts to address current and future regulatory challenges in Canada and Europe. They will focus on a number of broad themes, including broadband development and network neutrality.

WSJ tops most trusted media brands index

The Wall Street Journal is the most trusted news source in the country, according to the index, with 57.7% of Americans trusting it. It was the only newspaper in the top five, and was followed by ABC News, with 55.9% of respondents trusting the organization; CBS News, with 55.4%; and BBC News, with 55.2%. Interestingly, BBC News was the most trusted cable television news source, ahead of all of the American cable news sources. MSNBC was the leading domestic channel at 11th with 47.4%, followed by CNN at 14th with 46.1%. Fox News ranked 18th with 44.7%. – Forbes

Google launches accelerator to increase diversity in podcasting

The tech firm has partnered with media company PRX to launch the Google Podcasts creator program. PRX, a public radio distribution marketplace, is behind shows like This American Life, Reveal and The Moth Radio Hour. The Country Music Association of Ontario has announced the nominations for its 12th annual CMAOntario Awards, with Jade Eagleson racking up five nominations. The awards will be presented on June 2 at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga.

Jade Eagleson is poised to win big at the CMAOntario Awards, presented by the Country Music Association of Ontario.

The "Rodeo Queen" singer picked up five awards nominations today, including Single of the Year, Album/EP of the Year, and Male Artist of the Year — the most nominations of any artist. Eagleson is followed by sibling duo The Reklaws, rising artists Josh Ross and Karli June, and mainstay Meghan Patrick, who all have four nominations each.
