The Lowdown On Who Won What At Breakout West

The BreakOut West festival and conference in Kelowna has now concluded, and the event included the presentation of a multitude of 2018 Western Canadian Music Awards trophies. This took place at two functions, with the Artistic awards presented on Thursday (Oct. 11) at the Laurel Packing House, and Industry awards at a brunch on Saturday (Oct. 13), at the BreakOut West host hotel – the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort.


Honourees at the latter function included Terry Jacks, who received the 2018 Heritage Award, and Allan Reid, who was presented with the 2018 Kevin Walters Industry Builder Award.

Manitoba indie-rock band Attica Riots was awarded Recording of the Year, which was accompanied by a $2,000 honourarium courtesy of Stingray Music’s Stingray Rising Stars program.

The Grapes of Wrath were inducted into the Western Canadian Music Awards Hall Of Fame, honouring their decades-spanning career. The Kelowna-born rock band was officially presented with their award at BNA Brewing Company, where they  performed as part of the BreakOut West showcase festival.

BreakOut West 2018 featured 65 showcasing performers over its four days. The conference side featured 70 Canadian speakers, presenters and mentors, 41 international delegates, 25 conference sessions, and an estimated 600 one-on-one meetings.

Kid Cudi Cancels Insano World Tour After Breaking Foot: ‘The Injury Is Much More Serious Than I Thought’

Cudder was slated to hit the road in June on a tour that included three big Canadian dates.

Kid Cudi is canceling his upcoming Insano World Tour {which included stops in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal) due to an injury suffered while performing at Coachella over the weekend.

Cudi relayed the news to his fans in a heartfelt note on Wednesday (April 24), in which he revealed that he actually broke his calcaneus — the bone that forms at the heel — in the stage fall.
