On February 5, 165 ukulele students from Doane Uschool and Jann Arden recorded the song Try a Little Kindness at the renowned Revolution Recording studio in Toronto. The song was originally intended to raise money for Doane Uschool, a children’s music education charity, and to showcase its talented students, but the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic changed that plan.
When Covid-19 hit, Jann Arden, Uschool Founder Melanie Doane and the group of students involved felt the need to share their song to raise money for other kids and families and to inspire everyone to share kindness in their own ways. A proud supporter of Uschool, Sun Life has pledged $150,000 of their COVID-19 donation to United Way Centraide. Through their Share Kindness campaign, Uschool will also be raising money for United Way Centraide.
“I’m so proud of our students helping other kids with their music at a time when we are all thinking of how we can be kind to one another,” said Uschool Founder Melanie Doane in a press release. Try a Little Kindness is the second song release of the Doane Uschool Sessions (Joy to the World with the Barenaked Ladies was the first) raising funds to support the charitable work of Doane Uschool. Uschool is a subsidized music program delivering weekly lessons to over 900 city students, regardless of their financial circumstances.
Uschool now invites everyone to visit Uschool.ca to download the free track, view the “behind-the-scenes” video and to share it widely with the hash tag #sharekindnessforkids . Voluntary donations are encouraged to United Way Centraide across the country through a link at Uschool.ca.
Made possible by the generous support of Jann Arden, and presented by Uschool’s Sponsor, Sun Life, and with assistance from Revolution Recording in Toronto.
