Abacus' Insight Into Damage Lockdown Has Had On Musicians

A new Abacus Data study commissioned by Music Canada, a survey of 700 professional musicians in Canada reported that the average number of bookings in 2020 is eight, down from last year’s average of 87. More than half of the musicians surveyed stated that they have zero performances booked for the remainder of the year.

The pandemic has also caused anxiety that has affected creative output.

From the report: The technical aspects and isolation make performing difficult, and the income replacement is nowhere near enough to make up for in-person performances. Many musicians report steep learning curves with technology and dissatisfaction with the lack of connection a digital experience creates between them and their audiences.”
