Neon Dreams: House Party

Neon Dreams - House Party (Warner Music Canada): This prolific Juno-winning alt-pop duo from Halifax releases a new full-length album, The Happiness of Tomorrow, on Nov. 13. It will include the track Sick of Feeling Useless, one that recently went top 10 on US college radio.

House Party is the new single and video, and lead singer Frank Kadillac describes the theme this way in a label press release: “Experiencing party culture for the first time, I wouldn’t really say anything and would just sit with my thoughts. But at house parties, I’d meet these weird people like me, and we’d have these great conversations.

"I remember having this conversation with a girl about life, and we started joking about hangovers and how much we hate them. She said, ‘hangovers are just borrowing from the happiness of tomorrow, and that’s why the next day always sucks.’ These little things in life can change your perspective, and I have a lot of those. I’ll never forget that moment. House parties are where I started thinking bigger.”

Kadillac's vocals are easy on the ear, and the short (2.30 mins) and sweet cut features a nice dynamic flow.

The Happiness of Tomorrow follows ND's 2019 breakout full-length debut, Sweet Dreams till Sunbeams, which continues to earn the duo new fans, most recently in South Africa where their song Life Without Fantasies became a viral hit, dominating streaming charts.

This week, Neon Dreams are taking advantage of the comparatively Covid-safe Atlantic Bubble to set out on a major tour of Atlantic Canada, making them one of the few bands touring in North America for the remainder of 2020. The dates start in Halifax on Nov. 12, closing out on Nov. 28, in Corner Brook, NL. Concert tix are on sale here.

Of note: After being program participants of the 2017/2018 Allan Slaight Juno Master Class, Neon Dreams won their first Juno Award, for Breakthrough Group of the Year, in 2020.
