Ruth B. – Dirty Nikes
Ruth B., a 25 year old Canadian/Ethiopian singer and songwriter from Edmonton, Alberta, lets her soul unleash on the single Dirty Nikes.
The song explores the emotional release of letting someone go, specifically her ex lover, and how his Dirty Nikes found in her room reminds her of everything she's been through.
Directed by Dream Scientist, in the clip Ruth is taken down memory lane and has minuscule flashbacks of moments she’s spent with her ex, in reminiscence of the good times they used to have together.
The featured Dirty Nikes in the video are from her ex’s skate park trips. Director Dream Scientist was able to capture many scenes of the shoes going through puddles and skating through the park, defining how the Nikes became dirty. Now that this is the only physical memory for Ruth and her ex love, she wants to get rid of them. She throws away the Nikes and burns them, not out of hate but through the act of letting go.
Ruth’s soulful vocals gave Dirty Nikes the feeling of nostalgia and hooks listeners to feel her emotions from beginning to end.
