2022 Prism Prize Eligible Video: Charlotte Cardin - Daddy

The 2021 Prism Prize for Best Canadian Music Video was recently awarded to Theo Kapodistrias, for his clip for Haviah Mighty’s Thirteen. We will continue to profile noteworthy Canadian videos that are eligible for the 2022 prize, including this one from a highly popular Francophone artist.

Charlotte Cardin - Daddy

This soulful pop singer was born to a French family in Montreal in 1994. In 2013 she auditioned for the singing competition La Voix, making it to the top four. Since then, she has been making a major name for herself in the Canadian music scene.

Her newest single, Daddy is a seductive tune Cardin says "is about knowingly making bad decisions and loving it. It’s about kissing your crush right by the open bar. Meanwhile, your crush’s other crush, standing by the shrimp buffet, sees it all. Your crush can’t choose between their two crushes, so you jump right in and choose for them.”

The visuals, which were directed by Martin C. Pariseau, follow Cardin around Montreal as she hits different locations singing along to the track. It’s really important to highlight the use of the colour red in the video which just further adds to the narrative of the song; as the colour exudes passion and intimacy. This video is sure to be a new Canadian classic.
