What follows is the first of an irregular column about what our readers are watching on the Idiot Box. With Christmas on the horizon, and the plague ongoing, it’s a given we are going to be trapped indoors and part of our routine is going to be spent watching television.
Our first contributor is bon vivant Rob Braide, a well-known and much-liked Montrealer who spends most of his days now in the Laurentians with his wife, a small but impressive collection of cars, and a large screen TV.
DISTRICT 31 – A mega-series in Quebec about a local police station and the drama surrounding its day-to-day operations. Great acting and watched by 1.4 million Quebecers every night. Shot daily Monday thru Thursday. In French. (ICI Radio Canada)
LA FAILLE – A murder mystery series filmed in and around Québec City’s Chateau Frontenac. Huge ratings. In French. (Vidéotron)
SUCCESSION – Great acting and cliffhanger series about what happens when big money is in the offing. (Crave)
DOWNTON ABBEY – I know people who are watching this series over and over. Great period piece. (Netflix)
NARCOS 3 – The scene of drug-fueled mayhem moves to Mexico. There will be gunplay! (Netflix)
TED LASSO – Award-winning acting and great cliffhanger series finale. (Apple TV+)
YOU – A guy becomes obsessed with a girl and kidnaps and kills her and does it again and becomes a serial killer. Strangely there are moments that you actually are pulling for him… (Netflix)
