Population II- C.T.Q.S (Bonsound): On Oct. 10, this Montreal band releases a new album, Électrons libres du québec, on Bonsound, the 100th album to appear on that important indie label.
C.T.Q.S. is the second advance single from the full-length. In a label bio, the band explains that "C.T.Q.S. is the manifestation of the tribulations of the past among today’s youth. It’s the calm after the storm, the law of suburbia, the boomer’s victory lap. It’s searching the 'Local business' category on Amazon."
The track is a bracing blend of post-punk, synth-rock and psychedelia, driven by pulsating organ riffs and passionate vocals. It features extended instrumental passages and neatly shifting dynamics and would work great on a TV score.
Électrons libres du québec, Population II’s sophomore album, is reportedly more straightforward than À la Ô Terre, the trio's 2020 debut record. The group's early indie offerings caught the attention of John Dwyer, leader of the American rock band Osees, and he put out À la Ô Terre on his indie imprint, Castle Face Records.
In support of their new record, Population II will return to the US for five Sept. dates supporting Osees. They then play album release shows in Montreal (Oct. 5) and Quebec City (Oct. 10), plus a show in Saint-Hyacinthe (Oct. 21). Itinerary and show details here.
