The Prize honours the best Canadian music videos of the year, with $15K going to the winner at the May 13 presentation in Toronto. Slaight Music returns as Lead Sponsor.

Prism Prize Announces Top 20 Shortlist

The Prism Prize announced Thursday the Top 20 best Canadian music videos of the year, as voted by a jury of more than 120 Canadian music, film and media arts professionals. Jurors selected the Prism Prize Top 20 based on originality, style, creativity, innovation and effective execution.


One of these videos will be awarded the $15,000 grand prize at a presentation on May 13 at TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto.

Slaight Music returns as Lead Sponsor for the 2018 awards, continuing a partnership that began when the Prize launched in 2012. “Slaight Music has allowed the Prism Prize to grow into a top international music prize, and in turn, has provided more opportunities to the Canadian music community at home and abroad,” said Prism Prize Founder Louis  Calabro.

Other awards to be presented on May 13 are the Special Achievement Award (sponsored by Slaight Music), The Lipsett Award, and The Hi-Fidelity Award.

Guelph, Ontario's Hillside Festival Gets Richard Thompson, Aysanabee, Patrick Watson for 2024 Edition

Running July 19-21, the Ontario summer favourite's eclectic lineup also featuresBry Webb, Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth) and Jim White.

Long one of the most popular Ontario summer music fests, Hillside returns to Guelph Lake Island, July 19-21. The just-announced lineup features artists from Australia, South Africa, Morocco, Benin and Cameroon as well as notable names from across Canada and the U.S.

Heading that list are British folk legend Richard Thompson, roots rock supertrio Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, with guests Daniel Lanois and Terra Lightfoot, the Polaris-winning Patrick Watson, Ashley MacIsaac, recent Juno winner Aysanabee, former Constantines frontman Bry Webb, long-running indie rock band Land of Talk, The Messthetics (which features Joe Lally and Brendan Canty from Fugazi) and American indie faves Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth) and Jim White.
