The highly-touted modern rock trio from Saskatoon returns with a new single featuring dreamy instrumental passages and gently mesmerising vocals. It will turn you into a close listener.

Close Talker: Half Past Nine

By Kerry Doole

Close Talker - “Half Past Nine” (Indie):  This is the first new single from the Saskatoon modern rockers since the release of Lens  (2017). That was the group's third full-length, and it registered strongly on the global blogosphere.

The band comprises Will Quiring (vocals/guitar), Matthew Kopperud (guitar/keyboards), and Christopher Morien (drums). On the single, the band notes: "’Half Past Nine’ is about a moment we all shared at a local music festival, surrounded by friends, all watching our pal, on stage singing his heart out. It's rare to recognize true significance without the help of hindsight, but this particular moment was special, and we all knew it right then and there. In short, this song is about trying to hang on to those times, or simply enjoy them while they last, knowing that they’re fleeting. Be thankful for one another; enjoy one another; life is short."

The track begins with a moody and dreamy instrumental passage before the gently mesmerising vocals come in. The sound gradually builds in scope, while retaining a beguilingly atmospheric tone before drifting off into the ether. You'll want to be a close listener here.

Close Talker plays shows at New York’s New Colossus Festival, March 8 and 9, then showcases at SXSW in Austin, March 13-16
