Jeen - Don't Wait (featuring Ian Blurton).

Having released her eponymously titled album just this past October, Toronto alt-rock artist Jeen is already looking ahead to releasing another collection this year. Don’t Wait is the first taste featuring contributions on guitar from Canadian indie-rock auteur Ian Blurton who also co-produced and co-wrote the song. It starts out a little dreamy, but hang in there for the big chorus.

bülow– First Place

Juno-winning alt-pop singer bülow continues adding to her catalogue of singles and EPs with First Place, her initial offering of 2021. A brief but hypnotizing track, she describes it as being about “someone who wants your attention, but isn’t very genuine.” She’ll likely have to face more of that if First Place continues building on her already impressive international critical standing.Stream here.
Lido Pimienta – Coming Thru

With her appearance at this year’s Grammys now placing her on the verge of world domination, this cut from Polaris Prize winner Pimienta’s 2020 album Miss Colombia is a fine example of how she brilliantly blends traditional and contemporary sounds. Meditative yet uplifting, Coming Thru remains as unclassifiable as the artist herself. Stream here
Jason Collett – Crab Walking Home In The Rain

It’s been five years since we’ve heard new music from Toronto indie scene mainstay Collett, and this new track serves as a tease since it will appear on his soon-to-be-released Best Of compilation, spanning his solo output for Arts & Crafts. The minimalist imprint of arranger/producer Andy Shauf is all over Crab Walking Home In The Rain, adding new colours to Collett’s sonic palette. Stream here
The Hello Darlins – Prayer For A Sparrow

Since putting out its first single last year, this Calgary-based roots music supergroup—which counts among its collective Matt Andersen and Joey Landreth—will finally release its debut album Go By Feel on June 11. The Darlins are offering another preview with this gorgeous ballad sung by co-founder Candace Lacina. Dolly Parton would be proud. Stream here
