A Podcast Conversation With ... Charlie Wall-Andrews

The SOCAN Foundation has announced its second annual Her Music Awards, which celebrate and support female-identifying, mid-career Canadian music creators who are on the verge of taking their creative careers to the next level.

The SOCAN Foundation in partnership with Bandzoogle recently announced the Awards will be held virtually from Toronto on February 25th, hosted by renowned Canadian artist and jury committee chair, Shakura S’Aida.

Two Her Music Awards recipients will receive a grand prize of $5,000 each to support their career development. New to this year are five honourable mentions of $1,000 each also to be awarded. The Awards are administered by the SOCAN Foundation, with financial contributions made by SOCAN Foundation and Bandzoogle.

Charlie Wall-Andrews, Executive Director of SOCAN Foundation, spearheaded the creation of the Her Music Awards to help female-identifying artists overcome the barriers they face in the music industry. Recognized as one of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women by WXN, Charlie Wall-Andrews is a Trudeau Scholar, music industry leader, and faculty member at the University of Toronto and Northeastern University (USA).

As the Executive Director at SOCAN Foundation, she created many programs such as the TD Incubator for Creative Entrepreneurship and the Tunecore Creative Entrepreneurship Summit which prepares artists to turn their passion and talent into a sustainable career. In 2019, she established the Equity X Production Development Program to empower women through training and mentorship to become music producers and challenge the status quo of a male dominated role in the industry.
